Suppose that PP is a point on a Riemannian surface SS. Explain the notion of geodesic polar co-ordinates on SS in a neighbourhood of PP, and prove that if CC is a geodesic circle centred at PP of small positive radius, then the geodesics through PP meet CC at right angles.
